Gordon Smith GCertSWMH, BSW UQ

In Speaker by Joshua Hawthorn

Gordon has worked with the Military Service Trauma Recovery Day Program at the Towong Private Hospital in Brisbane for a period of seventeen years. He has contributed to the development of a changing focus by the multidisciplinary group program from a clientele of predominantly Vietnam Veterans to a current population of veterans and current serving members who have served in East Timor, Iraq and Afghanistan. Many have multiple deployments, more recent traumas and more acute PTSD symptoms. Through individual and facilitated group sessions, there has been a growing emphasis on using evidence based treatments that encourage hope for recovery. In addition, information and corrective experiences are offered on topics relating to family relationships, parenting, resilience and moral injury to help promote post traumatic growth and a more successful transition through the challenges of returning to post deployment and family life.
